What is Psychodynamic Counselling?
The approach I use is based on the idea that, unconsciously, we re-experience feelings, thoughts and ways of behaving, in current situations and relationships, that are rooted in the past. We may treat people in our current situation as though they were a significant person from our past. There may be certain feelings that we avoid or that we are not even aware of consciously. These sometimes cause us unnecessary difficulties and frustrations until we become aware of them.
Counselling helps us to explore the hidden connections between the past and the present. In recognising these links, we become aware of choices and possibilities which were previously unavailable to us. The relationship between the client and the counsellor is central to this process.
